育碧游戏软件（现名Ubisoft Entertainment，原名Ubisoft）成立于1986年，是一家总部设于法国雷恩（Rennes）的电动游戏开发商和发行商。它在全世界拥有23间游戏开发工作室。2008年它是欧洲第三大独立游戏开发商、北美第四独立出版商。

发展历程
1986正式成立 Ubisoft Entertainment S.A 由Guillemot五兄弟于1986年在法国创立，从事教育软件和游戏软件等的出版和发行。公司随着个人电脑上一系列诸如Amstrad，Atari，Amiga等品牌的成功以及和Elite，Electronic Arts，Sierra，LucasArts，Novalogic 等一些当时欧洲一线游戏发行公司的合作迅速成长。
Yves Guillemot在1989到1990年间，育碧开办了第一家海外分公司。育碧对市场看得很准，一举进入西方三大游戏市场：美国、英国和德国，并很快站稳了脚跟。
1990年，五兄弟决心开创自己的游戏，于是他们开始大量聘用年轻技术人员。他们很快发现，家庭作坊式的生产模式即将被淘汰，于是在1994年，育碧在法国的Montreuil创建了自己的游戏制作室。Michel·Ancel，一位天才的设计人员逐渐得到赏识，他领导下开发的游戏《Rayman》成为当今最著名的游戏之一。
1996年，育碧的股票上市，同时，它在中国上海和加拿大蒙特利尔分了新的制作基地。育碧公司的产品质量和服务使它得到用户的好评。华纳和迪斯尼也曾经和育碧合作开发游戏。
2000年，育碧并购了北美游戏制作的两家大公司：Red Storm Entertainment 和 TLC GAME Studios。同时，为了进军PC游戏市场，它还并购了策略游戏和在线游戏的老牌开发商：Blue Byte Software(当时就垂涎了NWC)。
2001到2002年间，育碧在加拿大、瑞士、韩国和芬兰都建立和分公司，到2003年，它已经在22个国家拥有分公司。在这期间，育碧的游戏：Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell被交互科学艺术委员会评选为2002年最佳游戏。
育碧于2001年启动了网站，进军在线游戏市场。传统游戏：Uru:Ages Beyond MYST、The Matrix Online，加上以前的Shadowbane和EverQuest，都将在美国主要录像游戏租赁店中出现。
2002年至2004年成为一个成功的品牌，拥有众多畅销品牌和大奖，特别是Tom Clancy’s，Splinter Cell， Prince of Persia，The Sands of Time，Far Cry， Beyond Good and Evil， XIII，Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six3。在韩国，芬兰，加拿大，瑞士建立了发行部，收购了法国的Tiwak制作室。公布了新的LOGO，宣布游戏销售量突破一亿份。
2004年至2005年进军好莱坞，育碧和一些主要的好莱坞公司签署了一系列授权协议：和环球影视城消费品集团公司达成协议，根据三获奥斯卡奖的导演彼得·杰克逊的翻拍作品《金刚》开发同名游戏。和索尼影视消费品产品公司签订了开发第一部基于索尼影视动画公司电脑动画特效的游戏。和LucasArts公司签订了制作《星战前传3：西斯的复仇》掌机游戏的授权协议。
2005年至2006年育碧成立20周年，进军次世代育碧20周年庆典开启了2006新纪元。完成次世代掌机前期定位的具体化。凭借Tom Clancys ，Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter等作品，奠定了基于Microsoft’s Xbox 360平台的视频游戏及娱乐系统的领先地位。
2006年至2008年育碧成为娱乐行业的领军者，2007年，育碧成为全球（除亚洲外）排名第三的独立游戏经销商。在保加利亚、中国、新加坡、印度和乌克兰成立新的工作室；在墨西哥和波兰新建经销分公司。成功收购Reflections Interactive (英国),Massive Entertainment (瑞典)，以及日本的一些开发工作室。2007年11月发布热作Assassin’s Creed，该游戏作品成为美国和英国有史以来最畅销的视频游戏品牌。成功收购Far Cry和Anno游戏相关版权，之后更一举获得Tom Clancy系列视频游戏相关的所有知识产权和相关产品。育碧旗下销售量过百万的游戏作品从10部增长至14部。
中国分部
上海公司
1996年12月成立了上海分公司，中文名为上海育碧电脑软件有限公司。公司现已拥有240多名员工。公司的业务正不断扩大，除了继续将海外优秀产品汉化后奉献给大家外，还将开发中国题材的产品。为此，1997年7月，成立了制作部，配备了一流的设备和精干的中、外多媒体产品开发制作专家。我们的目标是成为全国有影响的开发和发行与世界同步的游戏和多媒体产品的企业。
北京公司
1998年12月又成立了北京分公司。成长中的北京分公司现有30多人。公司位于北京市海淀区海淀区知春里28号开源商务写字楼，主要负责一些与客户联络和策划的工作。
成都公司
2007年9月, 全球领先的视频游戏开发商育碧荣幸地公布在中国四川省成都市成立新的视频游戏制作室 - 成都育碧电脑软件有限公司。育碧成都在前期阶段会集中在育碧集团内部外包工作，随即将负责开发PC、游戏机及掌机等游戏平台的在线游戏。
在作为育碧全球第二大的研发制作室--育碧上海取得了长期的成功发展以后，今日落户于成都天府软件园的育碧成都制作室将继往开来，2008年1月开始以10名成员初创的规模正式运营，并将在未来一年内把规模发展到200人。
成都是中国西部最具科学技术发展实力的城市之一，每年有超过35,000名软件程序专业类大学毕业生，大批的高素质人才基础给长期的发展提供了良好保证。依靠良好的投资环境及本地高新技术园区的发展，成都吸引了很多跨国企业，并且也为育碧公司建立一流的制作室提供了良好的环境。

企业争议
2011年10月，育碧蒙特利尔工作室与索尼电影公司已就翻拍《刺客信条》（Assassin's Creed）电影展开最后谈判。虽然双方都没有透露细节，但翻拍电影已经有了眉目。索尼电影公司已经注册了assassinscreedfilm点com和assassinscreedthefilm点com等一系列游戏电影相关域名，而育碧也获得了assassinscreedthemovie点com等相关域名的所有权。育碧通过E-mail通知相关域名的原有的主人，警告他们说育碧拥有刺客信条的名字所有权，要求其迅速归还域名。为了避免法律纠纷，多数注册者都将域名移交给育碧工作室，到目前为止，只有一个注册人没有归还域名，育碧也提出了仲裁申请。
2016年1月，育碧软件和EA陷入一场商标之争。对于EA新建立的工作室被命名成“Ghost”，育碧已提出异议。1月29日，育碧在公司内部发布了一个反对EA的文件，针对的就是EA新工作是被命名为Ghost的事件，编号为86568852，86568854。
