在戰前的台灣唱的是日文版的蛍の光（螢之光），戰後則改為中文版的骊歌。

在很多西方國家，這首歌通常會在除夕夜演唱，象征送走舊年而迎接新年的來臨，它的主調并沒有中文版本那樣感傷，而這首歌在很多亞洲地區中的學校畢業禮或葬禮中作為主題曲，象征告别或結束的情感。

在經典電影《魂斷藍橋》中，此曲被用作為主旋律。在經典電影《風雲人物》中，片尾衆人合唱此曲。在更早的經典喜劇電影《淘金記》中，電影後半部分也有衆人合唱此曲。
