剧情简介
犹太小姑娘“飞莺儿”和父亲、奶奶生活在俄罗斯的小村庄里，为了生计父亲前往美国希望可以延续自己的歌唱生涯。可在时时可能遭到迫害的阴影之下，她的父亲决定出发到美国找一份工作，然后将全家人接过来。就在他刚刚离去之后，村子就遭到了洗劫，小女孩与同行的两个男孩打算前往美国寻找父亲，在登船的时候飞莺儿与他们失散了，糊里糊涂地上了开往英国的轮船，那时她才6岁。
一对没有孩子的夫妇领养了她，并将她改名为苏茜（克里斯蒂娜·里奇）。在学校里，一头褐色头发的苏茜因为不会说英语，被其他孩子称为吉普赛人。但人们发现了她秉承于其父的音乐天份，苏茜通过歌声学会了英语。
十年后亭亭玉立的苏茜被歌舞团录取，她怀揣着最终去美国的愿望前往巴黎，并同萝拉（凯特·布兰切特）——一位漂亮的俄罗斯裔舞蹈演员成为好朋友。通过苏茜父亲相片上的签名，萝拉知道了她的犹太人身份。苏茜一心想攒够钱到美国，希望有一天能够找到父亲，并摆脱纳粹的阴影。
在一次上流社会的聚会上，萝拉认识了意大利裔歌唱家但丁（约翰·特托罗），而苏茜却引起了年轻的吉普赛训马师凯撒（约翰尼·德普）的注意。野心勃勃的萝拉开始接近但丁，她和苏茜一起在但丁演唱的剧院里找到了新工作。很快萝拉与但丁出双入对，但苏茜对但丁的为人却很反感，她与凯撒相爱了。纳粹的铁骑一天天踏向巴黎，死亡的威胁也渐渐逼近苏茜。但丁知道了苏茜犹太人的血统，在遭到苏茜的斥责与鄙视后恼羞成怒，把她的身份告诉了纳粹。而此时萝拉也认清了但丁冷酷狰狞的嘴脸，她要苏茜跟她一起偷偷前往美国。苏茜必须作出选择，一边是她深爱的、但绝不抛下族人的凯撒，另一边是逃离阴影，寻找父亲、追求自由的新生活。
苏茜与凯撒依依惜别，与萝拉坐上了开往美国的渡轮。在海上她们乘坐的船遭到炮火袭击，萝拉遇难，死里逃生的苏茜终于踏上了美国的土地。此时他的父亲已经是事业成功的剧场老板，然而身患重病，他一直以为飞莺儿与奶奶早已在洗劫中命丧黄泉。面对失散多年的女儿，他还是马上叫出了飞莺儿的名字。

每个人的一生也许要追溯要用一些关键词来表示,大约很多都能忽略不记,很多东西经过沉淀像被水漂洗,渐渐浮出颜色
若要把Fegele的最重要的事做记录,我会把与Cesar的相遇排在首位.虽然这场人生之旅的目的是为了寻找故事开头出现的唱着歌剧“采珠者”里的咏叹调“令我无法忘怀的歌声 Je Crois Entendre Encore”的父亲,至今我仍然记得他用淳厚的嗓音唱着的曲子,慈祥而又有安全感.在当时的Fegele的生活里,歌声与父亲是最重要的,虽然不断遭受恐吓迫害,但仍然不失为单纯与美好的生活.然后父亲决定去美国,寻找一份工作,然后将她与奶奶接过去.
于是故事开始展开,洗劫，逃难，去美国。然而，最后她却乘上了一艘去英国的船只。

谁在哭,The Man Who Cried
一向很在意电影的配乐,这让这部电影成为我的最爱的最大原因.最大的功臣是导演Sally Potter,很多人在评论她时一定要加上一个女导演,但她的创造却如史诗般宏大.她的身份多种多样.在她导演《探戈课》的时候，她第一次扮演角色。70年代在伦敦舞蹈学校受训，成为一个职业的舞蹈演员和舞蹈指导。开办过舞蹈公司，还拍摄过几部有关舞蹈的电影。导演了各种舞台剧，她还是一个诗人和歌手，在临时的音乐乐队演奏，并和作曲家林赛·库珀（Lindsay Cooper）在莫斯科的巡回演出中合作。她还和大卫·蒙申（David Motion）合作一起为《奥兰朵》中的音乐谱曲。
拍摄伍尔芙的小说《奥兰朵》显然为她赢得最多声誉,描述奥兰朵身为男人和女人时所遭受到的不同待遇、限制以及感受.一下是得宠于伊丽莎白女王的男子；一下又是被驱逐于权利圈之外的女性，整部电影变得不再是奥兰朵一人的故事，而是如同他寿命一样长的几百年的时代精神.虽如一部漫长的描述的历史的巨着般,但显然最终的回归是人,重点仍是描述奥兰朵做为一个人的不同心理状况,体验死亡,重生,爱情,战争,社交等种种行为.
