在很多西方國家，這首歌通常會在平安夜演唱，象征送走舊年而迎接新年的來臨，有時也會在聖誕節的時候唱，這就是這首歌聽得像聖誕歌的原因。它的主調并沒有中文版本那樣感傷，而這首歌在很多亞洲地區中的學校畢業禮或葬禮中作為主題曲，象征告别或結束的情感。
這首歌曾被不少經典電影引用，如在由費雯麗主演的經典電影《魂斷藍橋》中，此曲被用作為主旋律，而在《風雲人物》中，片尾衆人合唱此曲。
在BBC逍遙音樂會的最後一夜上，音樂會正式部分結束後，觀衆有自發地合唱這首歌的習慣。
據知，部分百貨公司或機構在臨近關門的時間，會播出此音樂，示意客人盡快離開。
這首歌的譯名很多，有稱之為《骊歌》，有的根據原題譯為《憶往日》、《過去的時光》，有的根據詞意取名為《友誼之歌》或《友誼地久天長》，也有根據《魂斷藍橋》在樂隊領班說的“一路平安”這句話，和瑪拉送别勞甯時說的“一路平安”而取名為《一路平安》
